<An unofficial synopsis written by Utrimer Blaireforthe.>

The Three Shadows, Abominations from another realm, presumably habitating the endless Void, beings of pure dark energy and limitless cunning...

They found a new home to taint.

We call it Azeroth, they call it Uelkerra.

No one knows how the Third Shadows came to break through the Void and get to Azeroth. On their own admission, the importance of their existance has been highly exaggerated by their exceptionally strong powers. Regardless of the how, their invasion into this world sparked off what would later became known as the First Triumvante War. The Circle of Magi, the Divine Absolution, the Sisterhood, the Alara'thuri and the Reavers of the Moon banded together to battle the forces of the Triumvante of Shadows.

No one knows when the Shadows first arrived in this realm. Their first documented appearance was a simple attack on an Absolutionist outpost in the Hillsbrad Foothills. The attack, while being a mere fraction of the power the Triumvante would later unleash, took the lives of several Absolutionist defenders. The outpost was overtaken and became the site of the Triumvante headquarters, named the Cage.

Every attempt by the Absolution, under the leadership of Commander Repetan Benediction, to retake the outpost failed. We were all fooled. The threat was demeaned as a pathetic expansion of the dark mage cult, Shroud of Na'varis. It wasn't long before the lone invader identified himself as the 'First Shadow' in the body of the sin'dorei shadow sorcerer Turanis Sunweaver.

A Second Shadow later appeared at the outpost in the body of another sin'dorei; a female sorceress named Syuvilia Cindercall. They referred to each as 'Brothers' despite the presence of the female host. The Absolutions repeated attempts to purge the threat led to a call of aid to the Circle of Magi. All diplomatic attempts failed. Ambassador Corra and her escort, Warmage Polthus, were both slaughtered.

This act of aggression began the First Triumvante War in earnest.

The Circle of Magi allied itself with the Divine Absolution and soon, their mutual ally, the Sisterhood, became the third force to join the coalition. While the Circle Magi were preparing to evict the invaders, the Shadows began building their forces. They enthralled local humans, warping them into 'Darksworn.'

The Shadows demonstrated considerable magical potential by blocking all foresight by Circle Seers. The presence of the Darksworn caught the Circle off-guard and against the Shadows and their slaves, the attack ultimately failed. It wasn't long before the true severity of the threat became known.

The Alara'thuri and Reavers of the Moon were called by the Sisterhood to assess the threat. The kaldorei endured similar failures at the hands of the Shadows, prompting their joint inclusion into the coalition.

The Circle of Magi, the Divine Absolution, the Alara'thuri, the Reavers of the Moon and the Sisterhood formed the Pentagonal Collective Army to fight the Triumvante threat.

The following is difficult to accurately recount. Several attacks took place, each more successful than the last, as the coalition finally found victory against the dark intruders. Spells, swords, fire, plagues, eldritch creatures, the war called for them all.

The forces of the Circle of Magi divided, an attempt to learn more about the origins of the enemy was made. Very little was found that can be contained in this document. As the war raged, the coalition enjoyed monumental success and bitter failures. It was not until Archmage Elenun was mysteriously killed off the battle that the identity of the Third Shadow became known.

Archmage Taramos Acherion, a powerful Circle sorcerer and the love of our Lady Archmage Tamalla held a constant presencethroughout the war, his magics and strategies being as ruthless as our enemies. Among the coalition, this made him a decorated war officer. The Absolution, however, held doubts. They used their espionage officers to keep track of Archmage Acherion when he wasn't in battle.

The Absolution discovered, through witnessing the cold-blooded murder of Soul-Guard Callerville, that the Third Shadow had found a home inside Archmage Acherion. To this day, we know not how this came to be. We were too late. The Absolution attempts to detain Archmage Acherion ended in disaster and great confusion spread throughout the Circle. In the wake of the domestic chaos and a crushing defeat in the Wetlands by coalition forces, Lady Archmage Tamalla was adbucted by the Third Shadow.

Confusion turned to fear and fear turned to panic among the Circle. The loss of the Lady Archmage spread discord throughout the entire coalition. Paranoia reigned supreme, each group suspecting the other of hosting more of the mysterious Shadows. It was Commander Repetan Benediction who reunified the coalition under Absolution leadership.

Dreadcaster Tinniboz "Tini" Geargrind became the new Mage-Commander of the Circle and it wasn't long after that Lady Archmage Tamalla was located in a remote Triumvante prison deep in the forests of Azshara. A rescue attempt was made by the Circle and Sisterhood forces that, while costly, resulted in the return of our Lady Archmage. However, all was not well. The loss of her loved one and the torture she endured at his possessed hands changed our Lady Archmage forever.

Her heart turned cold, Lady Archmage Tamalla reassumed control of the Circle and, through deception and manipulation, positioned herself as head of the Pentagonal Collective Army. Warmagi and Absolutionist paladins, once dominating the front lines, were withdrawn to reserve the bulk of the military. Powerful warlocks, bloodmages and necromancers from the Circle filled the front ranks as destructive magic was unleashed. This was met with universal condemnation from the other Pentagonal groups but Lady Archmage Tamalla refused to relent, smashing all internal opposition indiscriminantly.

The war raged on as the switch in tactics caught the Triumvante off-guard, their swelling numbers were cut down by ferocity induced through an unwavering desire to end the war. Lady Archmage Tamalla herself privately arranged for a prison to bedeveloped for her former love, the Third Shadow. While a desperate feeling to end all hostility was being felt by the coalition, Lady Archmage Tamalla obsessed over revenge.

The forces of the Triumvante and the Pentagonal Collective Army eventually reached a stalemate. Battles were being won through attrition, not power. It was here that the fall of the Triumvante began. Consensus among the Three Shadows was rare, and while happy to leave each other to their own devices, the increasing aggression and success of the Pentagonal forces made their independent campaigns unworkable. Forced to cooperate, in-fighting broke out among the inner Triumvante. Brother turned on Brother as their arrogance and misplaced belief in their immortality made them blind to the approaching Pentagonal forces.

Determined to overthrow the Cage, the Pentagonal forces marched on the Triumvante's original stronghold. The Shadows' darksworn were viciously engaged in combat as the forces of the coalition arrived. Seizing the oppurtunity, a mass slaughter erupted as the coalition launched the attack. The darksworn, against all expectations, ended their internal conflicts to present a united front against the Pentagonal Collective Army.

    The casualties were disasterous.

Eventually breaking their combat, the Three Shadows fought the Pentagonal army personally. Lady Archmage Tamalla savagely attacked the astounded Third Shadow and drove him to the brink of defeat, her rage fuelling her magic. Seeing their fellow brother fall in combat, the Shadows fled.

Mystic trickery by the Lady Archmage led to her being alone with the Third Shadow. No one knows exactly what happened in the main chamber of the Cage. The Third Shadow, inside the body of Taramos Acherion, was sealed inside a dome of cascading arcane magic in the Badlands at the demand of Lady Archmage Tamlla, consumed by rage and hatred over what had befallen her.

One by one, the fleeing Shadows fell to Pentagonal hunters. The Circle, against the orders and pleas of the Lady Archmage and the other Pentagonal forces, began to purge the Shadows collectively. Many Circle mages gave their lives to perform the spells... It was discovered that the longer the Shadows exist inside Azeroth, even in hosts, the weaker they become. As they were relatively new to the world, their strength was at its peak. One life was enough. Many Circle Mages died in the
First Triumvante War, sacrificing themselves to end the conflict. It is on these grounds that the Divine Absolution, Sisterhood and Alara'thuri owe the Circle a debt they can never repay.

First and Second were sealed inside a magically prepared urn after meeting defeat in the Blasted Lands and Winterspring respectively. The Circle, greatly weakened, began its recovery as the Pentagonal alliance dissolved, its purpose fulfilled. There remains a single momument in the Stonetalon Mountains, dedicated to the Circle Mages who willingly gave their lives to end the First Triumvante War. Lady Archmage Tamalla was forever changed by the darkness of the Shadows, and her magic kept Third trapped in a cage of pure pain and torment for his transgressions against her. The Circle is breaking at the seams and the tragic losses suffered in the war. The Absolution has taken it upon themselves to shield the Circle from any potential aggressors in a last ditch attempt at making up for our sacrifices in the war. Its only a matter of time...

The Circle is fragmented, dark mages now run amok with our operations, Lady Archmage Tamalla is too personally corrupted to do anything about it. No doubt if she ever found this account, she'd accuse me of treachery...

I care nothing for it. The world will never remember the Circle's sacrifice, they'll only ever see us a group of powerhungry mages who care about nothing but magic. They're wrong. They're all wrong. If the world wishes to be hateful towards us, fine, then my days of peaceful civility end here.
